Though Macintosh still lags behind the PC in terms of the VoIP product market, the powers-that-be are beginning to awaken to the opportunities inherent in this sizable, yet underrated target group.

For now, the product market out there for VoIP service and VoIP phones is a mixed bag, indeed. Yes, VoIP-capable phones, software and calling plans are out there for the Mac user, but he or she will generally pay dearly for the privilege of ultra-low international calling rates.

This should all change very soon, perhaps in 2007, already speculated by many as potentially “The Year of VoIP.” This writer’s opinion? Once competitors get wind of the sales figures on the sweet CIT310, the biggest-deal release close to Xmas 2006, we’ll be seeing a lot more models – PC and Mac – on the market way before this time next year.

A handful of products, hard, soft and other for your consideration follow.
